Amin sought asylum in the United States when it was no longer safe to stay in his home country of Afghanistan. His first job was at McDonald’s. Amin was naturally ambitious, but he didn’t have many special training or certificates. In fact, he wasn’t even sure if his high school diploma was transferrable. He knew he needed assistance and local expertise to establish himself in his new community. With the help of his case manager, Amin studied for the GED and took night classes to improve his English language skills. Golden Sierra also helped him land an interview with Fortress North America, a Rocklin company that specializes in next-generation fire retardant products. Amin received on-the-job training and the local business received a wage reimbursement to help offset the training costs. Amin learned all about logistics and warehousing. In less than 4 months he was promoted and secured a raise! Amin is happily working in the new position with greater responsibility and aims to take college classes in supply chain management.
