Over the past year total jobs in the region increased by 20,000, or 2.1 percent.

  • Education and Health Services led the year-over gains with an increase of 6,400 jobs
  • Trade, Transportation, and Utilities added 3,700 jobs
  • Retail Trade grew by 1,900 jobs
  • Government gained 5,600 jobs
    • State government grew by 2,900 jobs
    • Local government picked up 2,800 jobs
  • Only three major industries experienced job reductions from last March
    • Other Services (down 1,000 jobs)
    • Professional and Business Services (down 500 jobs)
    • Information (down 600 jobs)
